Evacuation centers are located in Estancia at the Torrance County Fairgrounds (for people, pets, and livestock), and in Tijeras at the Los Vecinos Community Center for people.
A Closure Order has been issued for the following areas within the Sandia Ranger District: All National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the boundaries of the Sandia Ranger District south of Interstate 40.
Damage Assessment: 24 single residences and 21 other minor structures destroyed.
Crews took advantage of calmer fire behavior today and constructed handline along the fire’s western flank. On the southern boundary dozers were used to strengthen lines. Structure protection also continued west of Hwy 337. Fire behavior will continue tonight, becoming most active after midnight.
Weather: Winds will be light from mid-evening until midnight. After midnight, winds will increase in the fire area for one or two hours with gusts along the ridge tops. Hot dry weather will continue through the weekend.
