El Rito, NM, June 11, 2017—For Immediate Release. Fire crews continue to monitor and confine the Bonita fire located on the El Rito Ranger District. The wildfire has increased in size to approximately 280 acres and is burning in a remote area. Fire behavior is moderate with single tree torching and short range spotting.
Fire managers on the Carson National Forest are inviting the public to a community meeting at 6:00 P.M. Monday, June 12, 2017, at the Vallecitos Volunteer Fire Department located at CR 247 House No. 1540, Vallecitos 87581. Personnel will discuss the progression of the Bonita Fire.
With weather forecasts for lower chances of precipitation, higher temperatures and windy conditions the wildfire may produce increasing levels of smoke. People with respiratory problems and smoke-sensitive individuals are encouraged to take precautionary measures. Smoke may be visible from the communities of Tres Piedras, Cañon Plaza, Vallecitios, La Madera, and El Rito, and may continue to be visible.
