Carson National Forest Bonita Wildfire Update

El Rito, NM, June 18, 2017—For Immediate Release. Yesterday fire crews strengthened the containment line along Forest Road 110 to prevent the fire from moving further east. Crews will continue their work today with dozers and hand crews extending this line further south along FR110. Dozers will be working today along State Road 111 east of Canon Plaza. Residents of this area will see an increase in activity as fire crews prepare a containment line along FR42. Helicopters and air tankers will be used as needed. The Type 2 Incident Management Team will assume command of the fire today at 10:00 p.m.
If your health is affected negatively from exposure to smoke the New Mexico Department of Health advises you to move to an area with clean air or to keep windows closed. A temporary closure order is in effect during fire suppression and rehabilitation operations for those lands located within the boundaries of the Bonita Fire Area to include portions of the following roads SR111, FR274, FR42F, FR42, FR110 and FR45. Forest road 45 northbound at the intersection of FR 42 and FR 45 is closed due to increased fire traffic. This will restrict bicyclists’ access to the Continental Divide Trail.
A community meeting will be held tomorrow Monday, June 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Vallecitos Volunteer Fire Department.
