The Turkey Fire was reported at 2:41 p.m. July 2nd on the Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest. It is located high in the Turkey Canyon drainage between Turkey Canyon and Argentina Canyon in the White Mountain Wilderness. No communities are threatened.
One interagency hotshot crew and one engine were immediately dispatched to the scene are hiking in to the fire area. Light smoke and low fire behavior has been observed. The fire is estimated to be 1-3 acres.
The fire is near the area that was burned by the Little Bear fire in 2012.
Additional updates will be provided after resources arrive on scene and assess conditions.
