Summary: The Morris Creek Fire, burning on the UU Bar Ranch, Philmont Scout Ranch, and State Land.
Warm and dry conditions continued over the fire area yesterday. With increased activity increased on the north flank, one spot fire was detected across Rayado Creek. Yesterday was one of the busiest day for helicopter bucket work and was instrumental in moderating fire spread and keeping fire from making a run up the north side of Rayado Creek. The west, south, and east perimeter showed minimal activity. Firefighters identified and assessed all structures within our delegated area.
Reconnaissance flights are planned for mid-morning to detect progression of the spot fire. Today, crews will monitor the north side of the fire as it progresses down into the Rayado Creek drainage. Aerial resources will be utilized when and where possible to slow the fire’s progression. Crews continue to hold, mop-up, and monitor west, south, and east fire perimeter.
Weather forecasts calls for slightly stronger winds before the onset of chances for showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday afternoon thru Sunday.
There is concern for road conditions to change due to debris rolling onto the road from rains near the fire burn scar areas. For up to date road closure information refer to New Mexico Department of Transportation Road Advisory Hotline 511 or NMRoads.com.
