The “267 Fire” burning near Portales, NM in Roosevelt County has been contained. The fire is currently estimated at 1,000 acres. At least four structures have been lost and one person was taken to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Evacuations remain in place in the area of the fire while crews work to put out hot spots. The Portales Police Department reports that evacuation shelters have been set up at First Baptist Church and the Portales Memorial Building, in Portales. Roads closest to the fire may still be affected including Highway 267. Wind gusts have been reported at more than 50 miles per hour in the area.
