Size: 5 acres
Date detected: Friday, June 7
Cause: Lightning
Location: Carson NF, El Rito Ranger District, west of El Rito Canyon, T26N R6E Section 11
Growth Potential: low to moderate
Vegetation: Mixed conifer
Resources: 2 engines, 1 dozer, 1Type 3 helicopter, 51 personnel
Current status: Yesterday crews completed containment line preparation. However, widespread rainfall in the late afternoon dampened the area around the fire to the extent that planned firing operations have been temporarily suspended. A substantial number of current resources, including personnel and equipment, are being released today. Fire fighters remaining will continue to monitor the fire, and scout for containment line locations to manage future ignitions. If a drying trend makes firing operations feasible within a reasonable time frame, additional resources may be ordered to resume the modified suppression strategy.
Advisories: Forest users should exercise caution when traveling Forest roads in the fire vicinity. Large fire vehicles are still working in the area, and roads are wet and slippery.
A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire. Unauthorized use of unmanned aircraft (also known as “drones”) in a fire area endangers the lives of pilots and firefighters and is strictly
forbidden. Never fly unmanned aircraft over or near a wildfire whether there is a TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) in effect or not. Visit https://www.nifc.gov/drones and Know Before You Go for more information on drones and wildfires.
