The Rio Fire, located in the community of Abiquiu in Rio Arriba County is now 80% contained. Today resources will continue to mop up and secure the perimeter of the fire. No structures are threatened and there are no evacuations. The fire was reported around 2:00 p.m. April 10th and burned on both sides of the Rio Chama River. This will be the last notification for this fire unless there are significant changes.
Smoke may continue to be seen in the area. Individuals sensitive to wildfire smoke should take precautions and use the New Mexico Department of Health 5-3-1 Visibility Method to determine if it’s safe to be outside. Learn more at
