Chance Fire 

Date/Time: The Chance fire, located on private land west of Ruidoso in Lincoln County, is now 5% contained and 9 acres in size. All control lines held through high winds today, and crews will continue to staff the fire tomorrow to ensure all heat and smoke is addressed. This human-caused fire was reported yesterday around 12:20 and had 240 homes within a 1-mile radius of the fire start.  

Resources: Forty-eight personnel are engaged in response. This includes 3 engines, 2 hand crews, 2 helicopters, 4 air tankers, and 5 water tenders.  

Weather: The current temperature is 86 degrees and relative humidity is 12%. Wind speeds are 3-7 with gusts to 24 mph from the southwest.  

Evacuations: Evacuations have been lifted.
