Personnel: 6 I Start Date: July 14, 2023 I Cause: Lightning

Fuels: Grass, Desert shrubs, Juniper trees

Deming, NM – Minimal fire behavior in very isolated areas is being reported on the Floridas Fire. Only a few small pockets of fine fuel are burning within the interior of the fire’s footprint. Fire managers are optimistic that the fire behavior will continue to be minimal because of sparse fuels and rocky outcrops that serve as natural barriers. Forecasted rainshowers did not materialize last night, however a possibility for rain over the next few days is noted in today’s weather forecast which indicates “today, a 30% chance for rain after 5 pm.” The number of firefighting resources assigned have been reduced, commensurate with the level of fire activity. One BLM engine, with one chase truck and six personnel, are still on site. All other resources that have been assigned to the Floridas Fire will be released by the end of this week. The Floridas Fire will go into a “monitor” status, in which helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft conduct regular flight missions over the fire, while fire engines may also be used to patrol the area if the need is warranted.

To date, no injuries or illnesses have been reported and the primary objective of firefighter and public safety has thus far been achieved. Resources are still assigned to the incident until they arrive to their next destination safely, whether it be their home base unit or a direct reassignment to another incident. Deming residents and local and county officials and have extended their gratitude and have been very supportive over the past week. The FINAL Bureau of Land Management Floridas Fire update will be issued on Friday, July 21st. In the event fire activity does increase, fire updates will resume.
