Mill Fire Update-7/27/23

New Fire Start Location:  West side of the Magdalena Mountains on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Albuquerque District’s Socorro Field Office. The origin of the fire start is on BLM managed lands and is currently burning on BLM, US Forest Service (USFS), state and private lands. 

Reported start date / time: July 26, 2023 / 2:18pm 

Size: 600 acres 

Cause:  Lightning strike. 

Vegetation: Juniper, grass and brush.

Fire Behavior: The Mill Fire is exhibiting moderate fire behavior associated with winds produced by passing thunderstorms.

Resources: Multiple resources have respond from BLM, USFS, and New Mexico Forestry Division. 

Strategy: Full suppression. 

Values at risk: At this time, the Mill Fire is threatening private residence, no evacuations are in effect. 

Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the first priority. Members of the public should avoid the Mill Fire area. 

Smoke may be visible west from Highway 60 from Magdalena to Datil, NM Highway 107 between Magdalena and I-25 and I-25 in between San Antonio and Truth or Consequences. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
