Sandia Heights Fire – August 8
Reported Start Date: Aug 8, 2023 Approx. Start Time: 3:15 pm
Fire Start Location: ¼ mile north of Sandia Peak Tram within the Sandia Foothills on the west side of Sandia Ranger District of the Cibola NF & NGs.
Cause: Single tree lightning strike.
Resources on Scene: Bernalillo County Fire Department Engine and USFS Croatan National Forest Engine 632 of North Carolina.
Strategy: The strategy for the Sandia Heights Fire is full suppression.
Safety: Due to the weather with the lightning and moisture, responding resources have disengaged and will re-engage when weather permits.
This will be the only release on this fire unless conditions or the situation warrants additional information.
