Carson National Forest lifts fire restrictions

TAOS, NM – Aug. 14, 2023 – Carson National Forest officials announce fire restrictions will be lifted forest-wide Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 8 a.m. With the onset of the more traditional monsoonal weather pattern, fire danger across the forest has significantly decreased with the increased moisture, cloud cover, and higher humidity.

Fire managers continually evaluate conditions across the forest to determine when to implement or rescind fire restrictions. The forecast shows improved conditions which will reduce the risk of severe fire behavior.

While the rain will bring relief, fire managers ask the public to always practice fire safety with anything that can spark a fire regardless of restriction levels. Leaving your campfire unattended is illegal year-round. Campfires must be dead out – cold to the touch – before you walk away.
