Indios Wildfire Update (5/20/2024 – 2050)

Location: 7 miles north of the village of Coyote, NM, burning with the Chama River Canyon Wilderness in the Coyote Ranger District
Start Date: May 19, 2024
Size: 255 acres
Percent Contained: 0%
Cause: Lightning
Vegetation: Brush and timber
Number of Personnel Assigned: 25
Closures: No closures are in effect, but some recreation sites may be impacted including the Continental Divide Trail
Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the highest priority.
Smoke: Smoke: Smoke is laying down in the canyon tonight and local communities may experience smoke impacts along State Road 96, and along FR 151.

The Northern New Mexico Type 3 team has been ordered to manage the wildfire. There are no threats to people or property. Updates will resume tomorrow morning (May 21).
