Fisher Fire FINAL UPDATE – Magdalena Ranger District – San Mateo Mountains

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, July 16, 2024 – This will be the final update for the lightning-caused Fisher Fire within the northwest San Mateo Mountains on the Magdalena Ranger District.

Cause: Lightning Strike
Size: 8,043 acres
Location: Remote mountainous terrain of northwest San Mateo Mts. on the Magdalena Ranger District – New Mexico on the Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands.
Strategy: Confine and contain.
Containment: 85%.

Fire operations will continue securing the fire perimeter through mop-up (extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines, felling snags, and trenching logs to prevent rolling after an area has burned, to make a fire safe, or to reduce residual smoke). Heavy equipment will continue rehabilitation of dozer lines.

The Cibola NF & NGs wishes to extend their appreciation to all the resources of firefighters, aviation, heavy equipment operators, support personnel and the ABQ Zone Incident Management Team for their effective implementation of the confine and contain strategy of the Fisher fire.

This will be the final update on the Fisher Fire unless conditions or the situation warrants additional information.
