Broadcast Burn Moving Forward at Black Lake

After a successful test fire yesterday, the collaborative prescribed fire team will move forward with ignitions on the Black Lake prescribed fire, located on state trust land approximately seven miles southeast of Angel Fire. Ignitions will target appropriately 250 acres of thinned ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forest to reduce fuels and reintroduce low intensity surface fire to this fire-adapted ecosystem.

Conditions are within prescription of the burn plan and the team has direct communications with the National Weather Service to stay updated on the site specific forecast.

Ignitions will likely continue through Wednesday, October 16th followed by holding and patroling through the weekend and longer as needed. Resources and equipment from The Nature Conservancy,  The Forest Stewards Guild, New Mexico State Land Office, Moreno Valley Fire Department, and Angel Fire Fire Department.
