Crews Continue to Patrol and Monitor Current Projects

Here’s the latest for prescribed fire activity on the Carson National Forest:
- On Hold: Fire crews are holding off on new prescribed fire ignitions over the next several days due incoming wet weather. This will be the final update until potential ignitions are rescheduled.
- On the Ground: Crews are patrolling and monitoring current prescribed fires as flames continue to consume fuels, producing some smoke, on the following units:
- American Creek (Tres Piedras)
- Sotano (El Rito in Rio Arriba Co.)
- La Jara (Angel Fire)
- On Deck: Meanwhile, fire managers are looking for opportunities to start more prescribed fires after storm systems pass or in unaffected areas. This includes the following units:
- Apache (Angel Fire)
- Mesa Juan Domingo (Canjilon)
- Powderhouse (Valle Vidal) units
- Other units may be scheduled
Be Smoke Ready
Smoke is an inevitable part of living in a fire-dependent ecosystem. Unlike wildfires, the good news is prescribed fires are short-term in duration and planned in coordination with the New Mexico Environment Department to minimize smoke impacts.
Smoke will, nonetheless, be present. Take action to protect your health during any kind of fire by taking the steps at https://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/CarsonRxSmoke.
