Black Lake Prescribed Fire Update: Ignitions Completed as Monitoring and Patrol Continues

Ignitions are now completed for 2024 on the Black Lake prescribed fire located on state trust land near Angel Fire. Managers continue to monitor weather and site conditions while crews  patrol the burn unit as necessary.

Low intensity, surface fire was returned to approximately 120 acres of fire-adapted ponderosa pine and dry mixed conifer forest.  The treated acreage builds upon previous prescribed fire and forest thinning projects to reduce fuels and increase forest resilience.

The project was implemented by a diverse group of partners including the Moreno Valley Fire Department, Angel Fire Fire Department, New Mexico State Land Office, The Nature Conservancy,  and the Forest Stewards Guild.
