Blue Front Fire Update, November 6, 2024

Location: 4 miles west of Alto, 9 miles northwest of Ruidoso, located in the Blue 2 wildfire footprint in the White Mountain Wilderness
Resources: One Type 6, USFS engine
Types of vegetation in the area (aka fuels): Grass, shrubs, dead/down fuel
Strategy: Full Suppression with direct and indirect tactics
Road Closures: None
Smoke: There is no smoke showing from the Blue Front Fire
Update: Uncrewed aircraft (drone) will be utilized to detect heat and provide fire managers with a good look at what and where if any heat remains. An Engine remains assigned to the fire and will continue assessing the conditions on the ground as weather conditions allow. Their mission is to detect smoldering logs and snags.
Precipitation in the form of snow and rain is predicted to return to the area on Thursday further minimizing any observed fire behavior.
Fire equipment and personnel remain assigned to the Blue Front Fire. Fewer resources are assigned to the fire, if you are planning to travel in the vicinity of the fire area, please use caution and drive carefully.
Weather: Precipitation has diminished. Today is forecasted to be sunny and temperatures in the 50’s. There is an accumulation of snow on Buck Mountain Road. Colder temperatures and snow in the higher elevations are forecast to return on Thursday.
