Final Update– Mogote Hill   

March 15, 2025 

Update: Today, crews worked to mop up the Mogote Hill fire’s perimeter and secure drainages, with good precipitation on the incident area. The fire is estimated at 15,000 acres and by the end of today’s shift, containment is anticipated to be 50%. Some resources have been released however others will continue checking for hotspots through tomorrow. This will be the final notification unless there are significant changes.  

The Mogote Hill Fire was discovered at 12:05 p.m. on private land in Mora County east of I-25, south of Wagon Mound.   

Weather: Currently 41 degrees, winds from the west at 16mph; 32% RH. Tonight, slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradual clearing, with a low around 22. West wind 10-15 mph becoming northwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%. 

Acres: estimated 15,000 acres            

Containment: 50%                                                   

Start Date/ Time: March 14, 2024; 12:05 p.m. 

Cause: Utility line 

Location: South of Wagon Mound, east of 1-25 

Ownership: Private / BLM 

Structure Threat: Threat has passed.  

Evacuations / Closures: Evacuations no longer in place. 

Resources: NM Forestry Division, Valencia County, Raton Fire Rescue, City of Santa Fe, Cochiti Lake Fire,                                                           

Fuels: Grass
