Local firefighting resources are responding to three wildland fires in the Grant County area, including the Carrizo, Outlaw, and Gallinas fires. The string of fires were started by lightning strikes early this morning. They are located east of San Lorenzo and south of New Mexico Highway 152.
The Carrizo Fire is 20-acres, burning in grass, brush, and pinon-juniper woodland on private land. Resources on scene include the Silver City Hotshots, four Type 6 engines, a helitack crew, and one Type 2 Hand crew.
The El Carrizo Hotshots are hiking into the Gallinas Fire, located south of Sawyers Peak and east of the Black Range crest. It is burning in standing dead and dead/down from the 2013 Silver Fire scar. At last report it was 3 acres in size.
Outlaw Fire is 3 acres, located between Outlaw Canyon and Gallinas Creek, burning in grass, brush, and pinon/juniper near the southern forest boundary.
Two Very Large Air Tankers and two Single Engine Air Tankers, and Air Attack are responding to all incidents.
