Highlights: Resources on the Seven Springs Fire make good progress in constructing and improving handline around the perimeter and securing hot spots outside the main body of the fire. Firefighters conducted a small burnout operation to secure hot spots and an uneven fire edge. Near critical fire weather is expected today.

Fire Activity: Yesterday, resources throughout the fire focused efforts on constructing, improving, and securing handline and hot spots around the perimeter. On the north-northeast to southern portion of the fire, crews worked to grid and locate spot fires. Additionally, firefighters conducted a successful small burnout operation on a southern section of line to mitigate areas holding heat and an uneven fire edge. Along the west side of the fire, resources conducted similar operations, as well as improving and securing handline put in place the day prior.

Today, the goal for all divisions will be to secure more fireline around the perimeter and improve existing firelines. As suppression resources advance around the fire, managers are ordering a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team for post-fire recovery mitigations.

Weather: The forecast today calls for sunny skies, giving way to mostly sunny with the potential for isolated showers/storms in the afternoon. There will be decreased relative humidities and increased winds causing near critical fire weather over the fire. Temperatures will be 80-87o with relative humidity dropping slightly to 16- 21%. Winds will be southwest at 7-12mph and could be gusty and erratic from near and distant storms.

Smoke: Residents can expect to see smoke from the fire. Any smoke in the morning will likely be confined to drainages in the immediate fire area before afternoon winds develop. Please use caution when driving in the area. For more information, visit https://outlooks.wildlandfiresmoke.net/outlook/6cdd8b38

Evacuations: Evacuations have been lifted for Nogal Canyon and residents can return to their homes. Please drive cautiously as emergency vehicles will be operating in the area. Be aware, there could still be areas of heat and smoke as you return to your homes.

Fire Restrictions: Except for specific permit holders and residents traveling to and from homes, the Mescalero Apache Reservation interior and unimproved dirt roads are closed due to Stage 3 Fire Restrictions. Charcoal grills and campfires are not allowed, apart from dwellings with fireplaces or wood burning stoves equipped with proper screens. Fireworks are never permitted.
