Resources: 2 crews | 4 engines | 1 helicopters
Highlights: This will be the final daily update from SWIMT 1 for the Seven Springs Fire; transfer of command to the Mescalero Agency occurs tomorrow at 7am. Although storm activity impacted productivity on the fireline yesterday, crews were able to make additional progress with mop-up and rehabilitation missions, increasing containment to 66% in total. The fire area received some precipitation overnight with more storms expected today. With the prevalence of these building systems, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the area through Wednesday evening, including residents in Laborcita and Nogal Canyons.
Fire Activity: Yesterday, resources continued mop-up efforts all the way around the fire and crews completed up to a full-chain (66ft) of depth in their mop-up operations on the northwest and southeast flanks, achieving containment in those areas. On the southwestern corner, firefighters worked steep slopes and were pushed out by weather but still obtained additional depth with mop-up tactics. Resources on the northeast flank diligently secured hot spots and mitigated priority areas along the line, further increasing containment in Nogal Canyon.
With climbing humidity and containment, resources are being released from the incident. Personnel still working today will continue with similar tactics, while paying close attention to potentially impactful storms.
Weather: Unsettled weather will dominate the forecast today as monsoonal moisture overhead strengthens. Temperatures will be 66-80o with relative humidity rising to 50-55%. Winds will be south to southwest at 5- 10mph and could be gusty and erratic from storm activity. Should rainfall rates become strong, burn scar flooding could occur with a flash flood watch issued for the area, including Laborcita & Nogal Canyons.
Smoke: Residents can still expect to see smoke from material smoldering within the fire perimeter.
Closures: The interior and unimproved dirt roads of the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation are currently closed to non-residents and unpermitted persons due to Stage 3 Fire Restrictions in place.
Safety: The TFR for the Seven Springs Fire area has been lifted.
Fire Restrictions: Except for specific permit holders and residents traveling to and from homes, the Mescalero Apache Reservation interior and unimproved dirt roads are closed due to Stage 3 Fire Restrictions. Charcoal grills and campfires are not allowed, apart from dwellings with fireplaces or wood burning stoves equipped with proper screens. Fireworks are never permitted.
