Laguna fire is expected to remain active.

SMOKE
Yesterday many communities southeast of the fire had a brief period of elevated smoke at the surface as smoke blew through however the majority remained aloft creating hazy conditions. All locations had GOOD conditions to start the day except in those areas immediately below active fire along the Rio Chama. Today winds pick up from the west-northwest and will push smoke this afternoon down the Rio Chama towards Espanola and the Rio Grande Valley. Conditions could reach UNHEALTHY FOR SENSTIVE GROUPS for short periods as smoke blows through these communities. Most of the smoke will remain aloft creating hazy conditions. There is an increasing chance of dry thunderstorms which can create gusty winds and push smoke in unexpected locations, however with the increased wind these impacts will be short duration. Overnight smoke is expected to settle in low lying areas below the fire, including the Rio Chama River valley and in those communities along NM State Road 96, where smoke will be clear in the morning.
Tomorrow will be hot with lighter winds, but increased chances of thunderstorms and gusty winds. This could lead to smoke at the surface especially in the afternoons. While conditions may change rapidly, any smoke impacts should be fairly short in duration and overall conditions should remain in the GOOD to MODERATE range. This weekend the chances of thunderstorms increase which will help clear smoke from the areas except in those areas immediately below active fire which will see impacts overnight and in the morning.
