Fire crews are currently engaged in suppressing the Ojitos Fire, which is north of Taos, N.M., between the communities of San Cristobal and Lama.
Personnel from Carson National Forest and the volunteer fire departments of Lama and San Cristobal are currently on scene with one engine, three brush trucks and two water tenders.
The wildfire is estimated between one and three acres in size and is moving slowly, creeping in grass, with some isolated tree torching, in a piñon-juniper woodland. It is located between Highway 522 and Forest Road 493, locally known as Old Highway 3.
There are no evacuations or threat to lives or homes at this time, and crews are working to make sure the fire does not spread to structures a half mile east on the northern end of San Cristobal.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
