Ojitos Fire Update

After beginning to line the fire last night, fire crews are back in the San Cristobal, N.M., area to increase containment on the Ojitos Fire, which was first reported yesterday. Here’s the latest:

  • Size: 2 acres
  • Containment: 0% with increases expected later today
  • Fire Behavior: Smoldering with pockets of dead and down trees actively burning
  • Evacuations: None
  • Location: Between Hwy. 522 and Forest Road 493, locally known as Old Highway 3
  • Resources Today: Forest Service Engine 661, Forest Service Ready Reserve Staff
  • Cause: Lightning
