Highlights: This morning at 6:00 a.m. Southwest Area Incident Management Team 1 transitioned management of the Laguna Fire back to a local Type 4 team from the Santa Fe National Forest. The fire remains a full suppression fire and firefighters will continue to secure and strengthen the existing firelines until full containment is achieved. The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team continues to assess the fire damaged areas looking for ways to mitigate the potential for future flooding and soil erosion.
Weather and Smoke: A monsoon surge is forecasted for the area to begin today and continue through the remainder of the work week bringing the possibility of erratic winds, lightning and an increased potential for flash flooding. Smoke will continue to be present as interior pockets of unburned fuels are consumed. For the most up to date smoke information, visit https://fire.airnow.gov/. If you are sensitive to smoke learn how to Protect Yourself from Smoke.
Safety: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the fire area. For the current TFR map, visit https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=detail_5_8673. For the safety of our firefighters please avoid the area where crews are working. Drones and firefighting aircraft do not mix well and could lead to accidents or slow down wildfire operations. If you fly, we can’t.
