Middle Mesa Fire Morning Update

Flames rise behind a stand of pine trees.

Using cooler temperatures and high overnight humidity, fire crews worked overnight to keep the 500-acre fire south of Forest Road 218B by conducting a burnout operation. Containment remains at 0% and lightning was found to be the cause.

Today, crews will continue to work to increase containment before worsening weather occurs over the area in the afternoon. Ordered air and ground resources are beginning to arrive on scene.

Northern New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team will take over management of the fire in the evening.
