Deer Fire Morning Update – Aug. 7

Deer Fire Morning Update:

Fire crews were able to establish a control line around the entire perimeter of the fire, and fire progression has stopped. The lightning-caused Deer Fire sits at 1.1 acres and is currently in the mop up and securing phase (mop up is when crews use hand tools and water to extinguish heat and smoke). Smoke output has died down considerably.

Today, resources will continue to further mop up and secure the fire.

We’d love to give big thanks to the hard work and collaboration between the crews from the Carson National Forest, State of New Mexico, Picuris Pueblo, and Peñasco!
