Bloomfield, N.M., Aug. 15, 2025— Southwest Incident Management Team 3 transferred command of the wildfire last night to a Type 4 organization led by Carson National Forest personnel. This transition reflects the progress made in bringing the fire under control and marks a shift to a staffing level that is appropriately scaled to current fire activity. Agency-led management will continue to monitor and address remaining concerns while ensuring resources are used efficiently.
With suppression operations winding down, personnel are beginning repair work to address impacts on the landscape from suppression activities. Crews and heavy equipment will focus on repairing access routes and implementing erosion control measures to help return the land to a less disturbed condition. These efforts are an important step in promoting natural recovery and reducing long-term environmental effects.
The weather forecast calls for more favorable conditions in the days ahead, including an increased chance of precipitation, lighter winds, and higher relative humidity. These conditions will aid firefighters in locating and extinguishing remaining hotspots, further securing the fire perimeter. This outlook supports continued progress toward full containment along with suppression repair and monitoring activities.
