NORTH HOLIDAY PRESCRIBED FIRE UPDATE

NOVEMBER 4, 2025

Fire crews completed 209 acres of the 878-acre North Holiday Prescribed Fire located on Holiday Mesa in the Jemez Ranger District. Tomorrow, fire crews will continue this broadcast burn applying fire to the landscape within a defined boundary. Ignitions are planned for 2-3 more days.

Smoke is visible from Jemez Springs, La Cueva, Community of Gilman, the Pueblo of Jemez, San Ysidro, the U.S. Route 550 corridor, and further east near Los Alamos. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.

For public safety a closure order will be in effect for the fire perimeter during ignitions.

We use prescribed fire to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.

After ignitions are complete fire crews will shift their focus to patrolling and monitoring the burn.

Stay informed about scheduled prescribed fires through the forest website, the SFNF prescribed fire page, social media channels (Facebook and X), and InciWeb, the interagency incident information system. We will notify county emergency management officials when burning begins.
