Pile Burn Update

Winter weather is here.

Pile burning started yesterday on the Jemez and Cuba Ranger Districts. We will evaluate weather conditions and snowpack before a pile burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.

Jemez Ranger District

Thompson Ridge Burn Pit was completed yesterday. This is a 0.5 acre prescribed fire located near the community of Thompson Ridge along Forest Road 106JA. Operations aim to burn slash generated by the community during defensible space cleanup.

Cuba Ranger District

Fire crews started ignitions yesterday on the American Park and Rock Creek piles. Depending on weather, fire crews will continue burning tomorrow on these two projects.

Espanola Ranger District

Fire crews plan to begin ignitions on the Hyde Park North Ridge and Tesuque Piles tomorrow. Smoke will be visible from the city of Santa Fe.

Stay informed about the scheduled prescribed fires through the forest website, social media channels, and InciWeb, the interagency incident information system. We will notify county emergency management officials when burning begins.
