Pile Burning Planned for Red River, Taos Ski Valley

With snow persisting at higher elevations and more forecasted, fire managers are looking to potentially begin ignitions near two communities as early as Jan. 22:

• Red River: Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area
• Taos Ski Valley: Wheeler Peak Trail (#90)

Recent Work

Fire crews reduced the threat of wildfire to four communities—Canjilon, Chamisal (pictured above), Ojo Sarco and Trampas—by burning piles from nearly 400 acres of thinning.

All projects are now under a long-term patrol and monitor status until the fires are called out.
