Update: Yesterday, crews made good progress on stopping the fire’s progression, raising containment to 60%. Fire lines held well overnight. Minimal smoke is showing from smoldering debris on the fire’s interior, and crews continue to mop up those areas and monitor the fire’s perimeter. This will be the final notification unless there are significant changes.
The Cummings Fire was discovered at 4:27 p.m. on Monday, March 9 east of Moriarty in Torrance County.
Evacuations / Closures: Evacuated residents have returned to their homes. Minimal smoke is visible from Interstate 40.
Weather: Currently 64 degrees F, 23% RH, northwest winds at 10 mph.
