Media Advisory: McClure Fire 50% Contained

June 24, 2016; 4:30 p.m.
• Española Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest
• In the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed approximately 3 miles northeast of McClure Reservoir and 2 miles east of Hyde Memorial State Park within the Pecos Wilderness portion of the Watershed

Start Date: Smoke was first reported at 12:21 p.m. on June 23, 2016, by the Barillas Lookout Tower on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District
Size: 7.6 acres
Percent Contained: 50%
Cause: Lightning
Growth Potential: Moderate
Vegetation: Heavy fuels, dead and down timber, ponderosa pine

Update: The McClure Fire is now 50% contained. Air operations are on hold for the day while Hotshot crews continue to work on the ground. If the predicted thunderstorms hold off, firefighters expect to continue containment and mop-up until approximately 8:00 p.m. tonight before hiking down to their campsite at Nichols Reservoir. Crews will continue to work the McClure Fire until it is contained.
