Crews Get a Handle on the Comanche Fire

Mountainair, NM; July 1, 2016 – The lightning caused Comanche Fire was reported the afternoon of June 30th on the west side of the Manzano Mountains.  After yesterday’s afternoon of heavy saturation from air resources and hard work from ground crews today, the Comanche fire was called contained at 1pm this afternoon.  Crews will continue to mop-up the fire throughout the afternoon and as long as deemed necessary.  Rain and high humidity in the area have assisted crews while working in this rugged Manzano Wilderness.  Safety will remain a vital concern for firefighters, now working on steep, wet slopes.  Approximately 57 ground personnel remain on the fire.
