Most Crews Released from Comanche Fire

Mountainair, NM; July 2, 2016 – All but one 8 person smokejumper crew have now been released from the lightning caused Comanche Fire.  The fire was reported the afternoon of June 30th on the west side of the Manzano Mountains.  Yesterday crews worked hard to quickly line the fire and secure the perimeter.  It was declared contained about 1 pm yesterday.  The fire size remained at 1.2 acres.  Today the remaining crew will continue mop-up and ensure the fire is secured.  Safety remains of upmost importance as crews now have the added complexity of working on steep, wet slopes.

This will be the final update on the Comanche Fire unless conditions on the fire change.
