The Timberon Fire in Otero County is 40% contained. Containment lines continue to hold and resources are progressing with fire suppression activities.
Following a GPS assessment, the acreage burned is reportedly 268 acres, a reduction to the previous reports. There have been 44 dwellings lost.
The present evacuation area has reportedly been reduced to the fire line perimeter. At this time, homes within the area continue to be evacuated due to hazard tree falling operations and ongoing mop-up operations. Residents’ safety continues to be a top priority.
The smoke impact to the community has reduced, but caution for smoke-sensitive individuals is encouraged.
