The lightning caused Rock Tank fire reported July 20 on the Tres Piedras Ranger District remains at 137 acres. Some precipitation was received over the fire yesterday and is now 80% contained.
The fire is located 2 miles south of US Highway 64 off of Forest Road 42, approximately 7 miles south and west of the community of Tres Piedras and is burning in grass and Ponderosa Pine.
Today’s weather forecast again is for slightly lower temperatures and a 30-40% chance of precipitation. Gusty and erratic winds are expected near thunderstorms.
This will be the last update on the Rock Tank Fire unless significant fire activity occurs.
Some smoke will continue to be visible from Taos, Questa, Tres Piedras and surrounding communities but should become less as the week continues. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
