McGaffey Wildfire 50 acres

Location: Camino Real Ranger District, McGaffey Canyon

1 ½  mile west of the community Pot Creek

2 ½ miles south and east of the community of Llano Quemado

Start Date:  July 24, 2016                  Cause:  Lightning

Size:  approximately 50 acres          Percent Contained:  0

Summary:  Low fire activity and minimal spread through the night.  Additional resources arrived are on the fire this morning, their objective is confining the wildfire using existing roads and natural barriers.  Forecasted weather includes a 30% chance of rain and temperatures between 85-87 degrees.  Gusty outflow winds are predicted with any precipitation; however, these winds will not be of long duration as occurred yesterday. Smoke will continue to be visible from the surrounding communities.  The smoke inversion experienced during the night and morning hours will dissipate as daytime temperatures rise.

No structures are being threatened.  Resources on scene include two Type 6 engines, three Type 2 IA crews and various overhead.  An additional Type 1 crew is scheduled to arrive sometime today.
