The Roswell BLM fire crew intends on completing “Blackline” operations starting 01-17-2017 and wrapping up on 01-19-2017 if all goes as planned. Depending on favorable weather conditions and resource availability we will be looking at conducting the main firing operations the following week (01-23-2017 thru 01-26-2017). The units to be burned are Bull Pasture and Red Tank which are located just south and west of the intersection of HWY 380 and State Road 220. Also included in this prescribed burn is Dairy Pasture which is just south of Ft. Stanton monument, west of State Road 220, and Elk Valley which is located just west of the Sierra Blanca Regional Airport off of State Road 220. Total combined acreage would be about 1,700 acres. Smoke may impact subdivisions around the Ft. Stanton area as well as portions of HWY 380 and State Road 220. The intentions of the burns are to reduce fuel loading and to provide wildlife and resource benefits.
