SANTA FE, NM – April 11, 2017 – For Immediate Release – Fire crews completed the 340-acre prescribed fire in the Santa Fe Watershed at approximately 4:20 p.m. today.
Transport winds from the south are expected to continue into the evening, pushing the smoke north of Santa Fe. Moisture, including higher humidity and the possibility of scattered showers, is moving into the area and is expected to further mitigate the smoke with minimal impact on the Santa Fe metro area Wednesday morning.
The prescribed burn in the Watershed was designed to protect the City of Santa Fe and its water supply by mitigating the risk of high-intensity wildfire in the Watershed and to restore forest health in a fire-adapted ecosystem. Prescribed fires are managed with firefighter and public safety as the first priority.
