New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez has proclaimed April 16 through April 22 as Wildfire Awareness Week.
During a news conference Tuesday, at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, representatives from the State Forestry and Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Ken McQueen called upon New Mexicans to continue to be vigilant and do their part to help prevent wildfires in the Land of Enchantment. “I urge all New Mexicans to stand together and remember, “Wildfire doesn’t have to be a disaster. Little things you do now will make a big difference”, said Secretary McQueen.
Representatives from the City of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the Youth Conservation Corps, and others were present to emphasize the cooperative nature of wildfire management and share fire safety messages. The Secretary praised the efforts of these agencies and the benefits of these partnerships that are vital in the ongoing battle to prevent and fight wildfires in the great state of New Mexico.
