Stage II Fire Restrictions to be Implemented at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument

As a result of the extreme fire danger, Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument Stage II Fire Restrictions are being implemented and enforced. Restrictions include campfires and smoking in the park. These restrictions will be in effect starting Tuesday, June 20, 2017 and will be enforced until rescinded by the Superintendent.  Park officials feel that the risk to public safety and structures within park boundaries and neighboring communities from a human-caused fire is great enough that these restrictions are necessary.

The following acts will be prohibited in Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument until further notice starting Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

  • Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using fires of any kind, including wood and charcoal campfires within developed picnic areas, or permanently improved places of habitation is prohibited at all times at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle.
  • Possessing or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices, is prohibited at all times on all lands within Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.

Violation of the above, prohibited acts is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 and/or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
