Lincoln National Forest, Smokey Bear Ranger District – FIRST and FINAL update for the 120A Fire

Fire Update – 1/30/18 – 9:15 am:  The “120A Fire” was detected shortly after 7:00 this morning.  The fire is located on Forest Service lands, just off of Road 120A on the northeastern outskirts of Ruidoso. Forest Service and Lincoln County firefighters have responded and are currently on scene.  The fire, estimated to be 1 1/2 acres,  was creeping and smoldering in pine needle cast.

By 8:30 am the forward progress of the fire had been stopped and firefighters worked on securing the firelines.  They are currently engaged in mop-up operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This will be the FIRST and LAST update, unless there is a significant change to report.
