DAVID CANYON FIRE IN CONTROLLED STATUS

Tijeras, NM, April 12, 2018 – The David Canyon Fire was controlled at around 4:00pm on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Crews will continue to patrol and monitor the fire area until it is declared out. The fire burned 15 acres. The cause has not been determined yet.

Successful management of this fire was greatly aided by fuel reduction treatments that took place in the David Canyon portion of the Isleta Restoration Project. These enabled fire fighters to keep the fire from spreading.  At the same time, the fire allowed grass, small branches and other flashy fuels and litter to be consumed.  Treatments in the area have included mastication, hand thinning, fuel wood removal and prescribed fire.
