Cibola National Forest Lifts Many Portions of the Fire Closure Order

A Closure Order Issued by Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands as a result of the Bluewater and Diener Canyon Fires has been lifted in several areas. A three-sided rectangle encompassing the north, east, and south perimeter of the Bluewater Fire and FR 178 on the west will form the new closure. The only closure on the Diener Canyon Fire will be the Fire perimeter itself. For more information on the Bluewater and Diener Fires Temporary Area Closure Order please contact the Mount Taylor Ranger District at (505) 287-8833 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the fire is expected to be lifted by the end of the day today. Until then it remains strictly forbidden to operate drones or unmanned aerial vehicles inside the TFR. Both of these events signal the downward track of the 13-day response to these fires. Personnel, helicopters and aircraft are being released, and equipment demobilized. The last corner of uncontrolled fireline on the Bluewater Fire is expected to be buttoned up by the end of today’s workday.

There are a few islands of heavy fuels deep in the interior of the Bluewater and Diener Canyon Fires which will continue to put up visible smoke, possibly for a few weeks, however these smokes will not threaten fire lines or any property outside of established perimeters.

There are two contacts for anyone interested in soliciting for government wildland fire suppression and non–suppression contracts.
