New Start Reported on the West Side of the Manzano Mountains

Mountainair, NM, May 22, 2018 – A new start has been sighted on the west side of the Manzano Mountain Wilderness. An air reconnaissance flight has confirmed the start and initial reports on the fire size are approximately 1 acre. Helicopters are responding to begin water drops on the fire while ground crews assess the possibility of hiking to the fire. The slope that the fire is located on is estimated at approximately 70% making access by ground crews incredibly difficult. The name of this fire is the Ojo Chiquito Fire.
