Tijeras, NM, May 22, 2018The North Peak Fire was detected last night at around 9:00pm.

The general location of the fire is on the north portion of the Sandia mountain range between the Piedra Lisa Trail and the Osha Loop Trail.  The cause of the fire appears to be lightning.

Precipitation occurred in the fire area and throughout the entire Sandia Ranger District yesterday.  While every bit of moisture helps, the fire danger level continues to be very high.  Fuel moisture levels continue to be critically low for this time of the year.

Two Forest Service Engine Crews are responding to the fire at this time.  A helicopter reconnaissance flight is scheduled for this morning to determine the exact location and further information on the fire.
