Ojo Chiquito Fire 100% Contained – Final Update

Mountainair, NM, May 22, 2018 – The Ojo Chiquito Fire was reported around 2pm this afternoon within the Manzano Mountain Wilderness on the west side of the Manzano Mountains.  Helicopters dropped water and a helitack crew was dropped in the area and hiked to the fire.  This crew of 4 worked throughout the afternoon and evening to establish a containment line around the fire.  Although the fire is fairly small in size (approximately 3.5 acres), it is in extremely rugged terrain.  Helicopter bucket work proved to be very beneficial in assisting firefighters on the ground.  The Ojo Chiquito Fire is now 100% contained.  A helicopter will do reconnaissance on the fire tomorrow to confirm the containment.  The cause of the fire has been determined to be lightning.

This will be the final update on this fire unless the situation changes.
